One of the
strengths of AARF is its adoption program.
In
November 1, 2005 The Anguilla Animal Rescue Foundation instituted a new
adoption policy that we feel will put the onus on the new owner since he/she
has an investment in his companion friend. The small US$20 adoption fee pays
for the spay/neuter surgery when the pet is between 4 & 6 months, health
examination, a flea/tick bath and the first set of vaccinations.
In 2006, of the 208
animals taken in by AARF 148 were adopted mostly by on-island homes. Of the
remaining that had to be euthanized; 72% of these were either unsocialized or
too sick to be adopted, and sadly we were unable to find homes for the remaining
10%. With the help of dedicated volunteers, AARF sponsors adoption days and
does its utmost to find a home for as many animals as possible. For an
organization, which is completely voluntary and has only been in existence for a
few years we are proud of our achievements thus far.
Our foster program has grown and we now
depend on several volunteers to take in one of our animals for adoption if
it needs extra socialization or if it has already been at the shelter for 10
days.
Banki & Banx were rescued, fostered
and brought to the clinic by the Tiefenthaler's who were visiting from
Wisconsin. They found homes very quickly - together!
A wonderful friendship!
These
pups were fostered & socialized by an AARF volunteer in the bush until
forever homes were found for them.
This lucky puppy is one of the above after
adoption!
